ByDeborah Austin U.S. Steel has reorganized its Distribution and Logistics Services department as Transtar Logistics LLC -- a newly created, wholly owned subsidiary of Transtar Inc., itself a direct subsidiary of U.S. Steel. The reorganization is not expected to impact U.S. Steel's service to its customers or relationship with its carriers. Transtar Inc. subsidiaries include the Birmingham Southern Railroad, Union Railroad, the Warrior and Gulf Navigation Co., and others. "The function and expertise of Distribution and Logistics Services are a natural fit with the transportation businesses of Transtar," says Transtar President Thomas Sterling. Besides continuing to provide all the logistics services needed to support U.S. Steel's shipment of products, Transtar Logistics will market its domestic and international logistics expertise to related industries. It will be located at Transtar's headquarters in Monroeville, Pa. The $6.1 billion U.S. Steel Group is a unit of Pittsburgh-based USX Corp.
