UTC's David: Tough 12 Months Ahead For U.S. Economy

By John S. McClenahen The next 12 months will be a tough time for the U.S. economy, but the longer-term looks better, says George David, chairman and CEO of United Technologies Corp. (UTC), Hartford, Conn. During the next year, "we've got the potential for consumer-spending pullback in the capital goods sector, vehicles, housing starts, things like that," he says. "We've got continued challenges in aviation," adds David, whose company produces Pratt & Whitney jet engines. However, "I think we can be decisive in affirming the long-range outlook for economies across the world -- especially in emerging markets."
