More than three-quarters of those surveyed by Ernst & Young LLP/Roper Starch Worldwide Inc. expect entrepreneurship to dominate the next century. The survey findings suggest the era of the entrepreneurs will trigger a variety of workplace changes. For example, 87% of those surveyed expect a greater emphasis on personal fulfillment, 85% expect more innovation, and 76% believe there will be more creative work arrangements. Between 60% and 73% of those surveyed also believe that the coming entrepreneurial age will lead to a more competitive work environment, a continued decline in union influence, more strategic alliances, and less -- even minimal -- government intervention and regulation. Survey participants included 500 "influential Americans" identified by Roper.
