With the turn of the century less than six months away and the threat of the millennium bug approaching, Pakistan has set the deadline at Oct. 1 for all major government organizations to become Y2K compliant. Public concern about potential computer problems associated with Y2K seems to be growing with daily articles in newspapers and advertisements by state-owned Pakistan Computer Bureau (PCB), which has set up a task force to counter the Y2K menace. "We have received feedback that most of the leading state organizations would be ready to face the Y2K onslaught by Sept. 30," said Ijaz H. Khawaja, PCB director general. Commentators in financial and software circles say Pakistan's banking sector has made the best showing in preparation for Jan. 1, 2000
