Environmentally speaking, Boeing cleared the air.

The company's facilities reduced:

* Carbon dioxide emissions by 28%
* Energy use by 30%
* Hazardous-waste generation by 44%
* Water intake by 41%

The company reported this in its 2011 Environmental report which measures its environmental impact since 2002 on a revenue-adjusted basis.

Future plans call for further improvement at its new South Carolina site, which will be powered completely by renewable energy, including solar panels that will cover the roof of the 787 assembly building.

The site is one of four Boeing facilities that will send zero non-hazardous solid waste to landfills.
