DaimlerChrysler Relocates Production Plant To Brazil

DaimlerChrysler said July 18 that it planned to transfer production of its Mercedes-Benz C-Class sports coupe from Germany to Brazil. Production at DaimlerChrylser's plant in Juiz de Fora would begin in the first quarter of 2007.

The Brazilian factory would be the only site at which the C-Class sports coupe -- which is targeted primarily at European customers -- would be built in the future. The model is currently built in Sindelfingen, near Stuttgart, which would in future concentrate on building the new generation C-Class saloon model, DaimlerChrysler said.

"By making this decision, we're taking advantage of the know-how and capacity of the Brazilian factory," said Rainer Schmueckle, chief operating officer of the Mercedes Car Group.
