Meridian Automotive Systems Inc. of Allen Park, Mich. will buy Ford's Sandusky, Ohio auto parts plant. Employing 1700, the plant might have been closed by the end of 2008 according to the Toledo Blade.
The plant produces front, rear and signal lighting for nearly 60% of Ford's North American production according to a statement by Meridian.
"Acquiring the Sandusky, Ohio facility is a logical extension of our engineering and manufacturing expertise in lighting and thermoplastic injection molding, " said Richard E. Newsted, CEO of Meridian.
The factory was among plants taken back by Ford two years ago in a bailout of spin-off Visteon Corp. It is part of Ford's Automotive Components Holdings unit.
