Tata Motors' Global Sales Jump 62% in November

India's largest vehicle maker, Tata Motors, said on Dec. 17 global sales, including those for Jaguar and Land Rover, rose 62% in November, aided by improved demand and last year's low sales base.

The company, which also makes the world's cheapest car, the Nano, said total global sales for November rose to 75,775 vehicles.

Global sales of the two British premier brands, Jaguar and Land Rover, rose to 18,825 vehicles in November, up 30% from a year earlier.

Jaguar sales accounted for 4,333 vehicles while those for Land Rover were 14,492. Tata Motors bought the two brands from Ford Motor last year for $2.3 billion.

The Tata Motors group's commercial vehicle sales for November were 33,338 while passenger cars sales were 42,437.

"A 30% jump in sales for Jaguar-Land Rover is not too impressive. This was mainly due to the low base level last year," said an analyst with local brokerage Centrum Broking.

Last month, Tata Motors swung to a consolidated quarterly net profit of 217.8 million rupees (US$4.65 million) for the quarter ending September, compared with a net loss of 9.41 billion rupees a year earlier.
