Toyota Develops Rear Window Airbag

The airbag will be installed in Toyota's 'iQ' ultra-compact four-seater vehicles, which will be launched soon.

Toyota Motor Corp. said on Sept. 30 that it had developed a new type of airbag to protect the heads of passengers in the rear seats of its cars, describing it as a world first.

The airbag deploys from the roof lining above the rear window in case of a collision from behind, the company said.

The airbag will be installed in Toyota's "iQ" ultra-compact four-seater vehicles, which will be launched soon, the company said.
