Plant will be operational by 2012

Norwegian solar power group Renewable Energy Corporation said on August 25 it will invest $1.2 billion in Canada to set up a new polysilicon plant.

The plant, to be operational by 2012 with construction to start in 2010, will be sited in Becancour, Quebec province, REC said.

It said a main consideration in choosing the site was the supply of electricity, which is used in large quantities in the process of making polysilicon.
