Deal could be worth around $3 billion.

Siemens said Thursday it has won a contract to supply 300 wind turbines to Danish group DONG Energy which will be installed in wind power plants off the British coast.

Siemens (IW 1000/26) said that the two companies signed "a framework agreement for the supply of a total of 300 wind turbines with a capacity of 1,800 megawatts (MW)."

The turbines, using a 75-metre rotor blade, would be installed "in wind power plants off the British coast between 2014 and 2017," the statement said.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but an industry expert estimated the contract could be worth around 2.7 billion euros (US$3.3 billion).
