Brazil Breaks Auto Production Record

Dec. 6, 2013
The world’s fourth largest car market saw sales of 3. 5 million so far this year.

SAO PAULO -- Vehicle production in Brazil, the world's fourth largest car market, reached a record 3.5 million units over the first 11 months of the year, according to industry data released Thursday.

The total beat a previous record of 3.4 million units produced during the whole of 2011 and was up 11.8% over the total for last year, the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (ANFAVEA) said.

Exports during the period totaled a record $15.4 billion with 522,900 units sold, up 29.4% from last year.

Production for November reached 289,600 units, down 10.7% from the previous month and 8% from November 2012.

Output of farm machinery also set a record of 94,000 units during the first 11 months of the year -- up 20.7% over the same period of 2012.

ANFAVEA chief Luiz Moan Yabiku Junior attributed the good results to the strong performance of the agribusiness sector and to the export demand.
