Significant declines in new orders for aircraft, both civilian and military, and communications equipment resulted in a 4.8% drop in overall new orders for manufactured durable goods in April, the U.S. Commerce Department reported on May 24.
New orders for durables totaled $210.2 billion in April; thy totaled $220.7 billion in March. April's decline followed two consecutive months of increases.
Excluding transportation, new orders for manufactured durables decreased 1.1% last month. New orders for capital goods fell 8.1%, with new orders for non-defense capital goods declining 6%.
