Third Straight Month of Steel Output Drops

Brussels-based World Steel Association reports steel production declined for the third straight month during August to 134,956 million metric tons.   However, that total represents a 1.4% increase over August of 2013.

Capacity utilization also slipped, but the 74.2% result is 1.4% down from the August 2013 rate.

China's steelmakers YTD have produced 550.1 million metric tons of steel, nearly half of the total worldwide.
