The producer price index for finished goods moved up 0.2% in December.

Wholesale prices rose marginally in December for a 4.4% increase for the whole of 2009, government data showed on Jan. 20.

The producer price index for finished goods moved up 0.2% in December from November on a seasonally adjusted basis, due largely to inflation among food products, the Labor Department said.

The rise followed a 1.8% advance in November and a 0.3% increase in October.

Excluding food and energy products, core prices for finished goods were unchanged in December and were up 0.9% on the year, the data showed.
