Audi Unveils Major Hungarian Plant Upgrade

Sept. 23, 2010
The plant will produce about 125,000 cars per year.

Audi, a unit of Volkswagen, plans to ramp up production in Hungary, it said on Sept. 23.

Audi will invest around 900 million euros (US$1.2 billion) by 2013 in its plant in Gyor, northwest Hungary, and create 1,800 new jobs in the process, a statement said.

The plant should produce about 125,000 cars per year, including two versions of the compact A3 and Audi's TT coupe and roadster models.

"Audis goal is to be the most successful maker of premium cars by 2015 and to sell 1.5 million cars per year," the statement said.

Audi has also reached an agreement with labor representatives to protect jobs at German sites until the end of 2014, it quoted works council chairman Peter Mosch as saying.
