The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS) moved forward with its strategy to revitalize American small- and medium-sized manufacturers through high performance computing (HPC) when it joined the leadership of a new consortium that has those goals as its focus.
NCMS joined other groups and manufacturers to form the National Digital Engineering and Manufacturing Consortium. The consortium received a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce and $2.5 million from private companies to spread adoption of advanced modeling and simulation capabilities through HPC.
The collaboration will push the NCMSs national strategy, which proposed the creation of a network of Predictive Innovation Centers that would focus on small and medium-sized manufacturers. The centers would offer them the tools, training and expertise to leverage the power of advanced computing technologies.
According to NCMS, these centers would help revitalize manufacturing by creating jobs and giving American manufacturers a technological edge in global competitiveness.
