Although more than 75% of 107 senior executives recently surveyed by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) believe their companies' technology spending has had a positive business impact, only about a third-36% -- are "very confident" their companies are getting an optimum return on their IT spending. Confidence was greater among executives in service firms (42%) than among manufacturers and other product-sector firms (33%).

Forty-six percent are "somewhat confident" optimum return is being achieved. And 18% are "not very confident."

PwC's survey was conducted this past spring and involved CFOs and managing directors of large, U.S.-based multinationals.
