SMB IT Predictions For 2007

This sector will outpace large companies in both North American and Japan.

Small-medium sized businesses will increase their IT spending by 10% this year, according to Mark Cox, an analyst with New York-based Access Markets International Partners. The growth will come from the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China.) While these countries will see increaded spending, North American and Japan will see a decrease.

Other predictions on IT spending in 2007 include the storage and security front, which will see an increase of 19%. SMBs will increase funding for intrusion detection, secure identity, access management, Web filtering, encryption and automated patch management, said Cox.

SMBs will increase purchases of notebooks by 20% in 2007 outpacing the desktop PC growth by five times, predicts Cox. The SmartPhone purchase will increase 18% globally.
