CVRD Unveils World's Largest Mining Complex In Brazil

Set to produce up to 30 million tons of iron ore a year in 2008, Brazil's mining company CVRD has unveiled the world's largest mining and processing complex. Dubbed the Brucutu Project, the facility opened Oct. 5 in the southeastern Brazilian town of Sao Goncalo do Rio Abaixo, in Minas Gerais state. Its initial output will be 12.2 million tons of iron ore a year. CVRD, the world's biggest iron ore producer, invested $1.1 billion in the massive project.
