Only 50% of larger companies' supply chains are as automated as its domestic supply chain according to the "Global Supply Chain Benchmark Report" released July 11 from Boston-based AberdeenGroup.

"Three-quarters of firms lack enterprise-wide automation for global supply chain processes," says Beth Enslow, senior vice president of research for Aberdeen. "This lack of visibility and control not only creates longer lead times and higher inventory levels but also seriously impacts corporate risk levels and financial performance."

Companies are using a variety of technology to achieve needed visibility including business-to-business collaboration to improve supply/demand synchronizations.

To address issues of global regulatory compliance companies are looking to specific software compliance applications.

When it comes providing the financial side of the house with necessary information, 90% of enterprises surveyed for the report said that their supply chain technology was inadequate.
