Weyerhaeuser said it has acquired Organic ID, of Colorado Springs, Colo., a maker of radio frequency identification (RFID) devices, for an undisclosed sum, according to the Portland Business Journal on Aug. 31.

In at statement issued by Weyehaeuser, the company said that Organic ID possess "proprietary" technology and makes RFID devices used in inventory control and supply-chain applications.

They added in a statement that the technology "is important to the packaging industry as more consumer products manufacturers and retailers move toward RFID to identify, count and manage inventory."
