Using the vehicle identification number (VIN), mechanics at 3,000 Volvo dealers and 12,000 independent motor traders worldwide can now access up-to-date parts, pricing and repair information for any automobile through a communication system built on the Enigma 3C Platform.

"Volvo is using our technology to empower its dealerships' mechanics and technicians, giving them the same kinds of productivity and efficiency improvements that software has been offering in corporate offices for more than a decade," said Jonathan Yaron, CEO of Enigma, a Burlington, Ma.-based aftermarket software company.

Incorporating 17 languages, Volvo's Vehicle Information and Diagnostics for Aftersales system allows mechanics to use an Internet-based application to access diagnostic interfaces, service manuals and bulletins, and parts catalogs, as well the ability to download patches and updates directly into the car's software system. This program also ties into dealer management systems and other back-office systems to streamline parts ordering, inventory management and other financial processes.
