Jungheinrich EKX models are energy efficient, RFID-enabled.

The Jungheinrich Lift Truck Corp. has announced the introduction of a new, more energy-efficient and versatile version of its EKX 513-515 electric man-up turret trucks to the North American market. Designed for narrow aisle work in dense storage warehouses and distribution centers, the advent of these new 3-wheel high rack stackers is a significant development since this series also offers radio frequency identification (RFID) technology as a standard feature.

The new 80V electric vehicle showcases a 30% efficiency improvement on energy reclamation from load and cabin lowering. The DC to AC conversion is also considerably more efficient, giving the truck up to 13 hrs. of run time on one battery charge versus the 10 hours previously available.

The new turret truck features an advanced, RFID-based system for intelligent truck management. An RF transmitter and receiver are placed underneath the truck with capsule-sized transponders placed at key points in the warehouse floor. Operators can then program the capsule to issue a range of commands whenever the truck passes over, such as slow down, limit lift height, sound the horn, etc., in effect, tailoring the truck to the application and allowing for constant, real-time visibility.

The EKX trucks also offer a personal protection system (PPS) to detect obstacles and pedestrians in the path of a vehicle, as well as capability for mechanical rail or inductive wire guidance, and an RFID transponder for recognition of warehouse areas.
