U.S. Unit of Sony is Under Investigation

Looking into antitrust issues

Sony Corp. said on Oct. 26 that its optical disk drive business in the U.S. was being investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice in relation to antitrust issues.

Sony Optiarc America Inc. has been asked to submit information about its optical disk drive business, it said.

"We are ready to provide full cooperation with US authorities," a Sony spokesman said, declining to give further information.

The California-based firm, a subsidiary of Sony Optiarc Inc., makes disk drives for personal computers and other audio visual equipment.
