Elon Musk: Fuel Cell Vehicles are 'Silly'

Jan. 14, 2015
Fuel cell vehicles, according to Elon Musk, are "extremely silly."

It's no secret that Elon Musk, CEO and Co-Founder of Tesla (IW 500/384), is betting on electric vehicles.

"I think all transports, with the exception of rockets, will be fully electric," Musk said Tuesday during the 2015 Automotive News World Congress in Detroit.

And Musk's long-stated goal is to help propel that widespread adoption of electric vehicles, which has been evident in Tesla's release of its patents.

"I think there's going to be a huge societal pressure for electric cars," Musk said. "I think they're just fundamentally better."

He means fundamentally better than all cars, not just gasoline-powered ones. Fuel cell vehicles, he claimed, are "extremely silly."
