Toyota to Recall 342,000 US Trucks to Fix Seat Belts

CHICAGO - Toyota (IW 1000/8) will recall 342,000 Tacoma pickup trucks in the United States to fix a defect with the seat belt, the Japanese automaker said Wednesday.

Screws within the seat belt assembly "can become loose over time due to repeatedly and forcefully closing the access door," Toyota said in a statement.

If the screws get too loose the seat belt pre-tensioner and retractor spring cover could detach.

The recall affects 2004 to 2011 model years. Letters will be sent to affected customers and the repairs will be made at no charge.
