The number of new jobs in the U.S. listed on-line rose to 2.13 million in last month, the New York-based Conference Board, a business research group, reported on September 20. The late-summer figure is more than 4% higher than June's early-summer level.
However, the latest help-wanted data do not capture much of the employment-related impact of Hurricane Katrina, which struck the Gulf Coast on August 29, notes Ken Goldstein, the Conference Board's labor economist.
The Conference Board's on-line job data reflects the number of new, first-time on-line job ads posted on about 1,200 major Internet job boards as well as on smaller specialized job boards.
