The 1999 Champions of Safety Conference, sponsored by Occupational Hazards magazine, will be held Sept. 21-22 at the Baltimore Convention Center. The event has been specifically designed to help companies comply with OSHA regulations, improve safety- and health-management programs, and reduce the financial and human cost of preventable injuries. The conference begins with a keynote presentation by Charles N. Jeffress, Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA, who will give an update on the agency's rulemaking and enforcement activities. In addition to other OSHA-related sessions, there will be seminars on how to improve health- and safety-management systems, small-business safety programs, emerging occupational health concerns, and the measurement of safety performance. Occupational Hazards also will present the annual Champions of Safety Awards, which recognize companies and individuals for superior achievements in occupational safety and health. Past winners include Motorola, Phelps Dodge, Lockheed Martin, Fluor Daniel, and MK-Ferguson. Call 800-765-5313 to register for the conference or for additional information.
