Looking for a new job? Make sure your resume doesn't include these pet peeves from human resource managers at companies considered among the best to work for. The top five, as listed in the just-published Resume Magic (JIST Works, 1998) are:

  • Not including dates.
  • Not having a chronological listing of work.
  • Overstating one's responsibilities.
  • Overly detailed job descriptions.
  • Summarizing work history by type, rather than listing the exact company and the job performed.
One other pet peeve: listing only job duties and not listing what one has accomplished. Resume Magic is available for $18.95 by calling JIST Works Inc. at 800-JIST-USA.
