Almost 10 years after publishing the first edition of Managing Across Borders, authors Christopher A. Bartlett and Sumantra Ghoshal are about to release a second edition called Managing Across Borders: The Transnational Solution. In their first edition, the authors described a new organizational model: the transnational. This model of global scale efficiency, national flexibility and responsiveness, and worldwide innovative capability, expanded worldwide management beyond multinational, international, and global firms. Still present in the second edition are ideas that provide guidance on developing and building the organizational structures, administrative processes, and management perspectives necessary for successful transnational organizations. In the new edition, however, the authors also describe how the transnational model has taken shape over the past decade. They also introduce new and timely company examples. Published by Harvard Business School Press, the book includes an application handbook to help managers reexamine their current international and competitive strategies.
