Baan Co. NV, a leading enterprise-resource-planning (ERP) software firm, announced last week that it will work with financial systems maker Hyperion Software to develop new accounting software. Baan, jointly headquartered in Putten, the Netherlands, and Menlo Park, Calif., also will resell Hyperion's current line of accounting products.
Hyperion, based in Stamford, Conn., is considered a niche or "best-of-breed" software vendor. The company is best known for sophisticated systems used for planning, budgeting, reporting, analysis, and consolidation of financial data worldwide. Hyperion has more than 1,200 employees and had sales of over $200 million in the 12 months ended March 1997.
Baan, which competes with such firms as SAP AG, PeopleSoft Inc., Oracle Corp., and J.D. Edwards & Co., is one of the fastest growing ERP companies. Last year Baan acquired Berclain, a maker of advanced scheduling systems.
