Team Will Test Furniture Emissions

The Research Triangle Institute, Research Triangle Park, N.C., is teaming with office furniture makers to begin testing commercial furniture for emissions. The issue is "that the indoor concentrations of many pollutants, especially organic chemical vapors, may be higher than the concentrations found outdoors," says David Ensor, pilot program manager. Those providing input for the test protocol include representatives from industry government agencies, the American Lung Association, testing laboratories, and buyers. The pilot Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) program is being done as part of a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency cooperative agreement
