ByDoug Bartholomew Algor Inc., a developer of software for mechanical engineering, landed an unusual customer this month. King Mongkut's Institute of Technology (KMIT) North Bangkok in Bangkok, Thailand, purchased a license for 99 seats to use the Algor FEA (finite element analysis) software package along with SolidWorks CAD program to teach Thai students mechanical engineering techniques. "A new course on simulation techniques in mechanical engineering uses the Algor software with SolidWorks CAD software to teach Thai students real-world mechanical engineering techniques using real industry tools," says Dr. Saiprasit Koetniyom of KMIT. "Plus, the Algor FEA software will be used in research studies conducted with our industrial partners in the coming years." KMIT is a technical school established in 1959 under an arrangement between the Thai government and the Federal Republic of Germany. The engineering software will be used as part of the master's and doctoral program curricula for the Thai-German Graduate School of Engineering (TGGS). Siemens, Bayer and ABB, all of which have business in Thailand, support the TGGS initiative. Algor is based in Pittsburgh. SolidWorks Corp., is a Dassault Systemes S.A. company.
