Business transactions within the global chemical industry now can be conducted online via an exchange sponsored by San Francisco-based ChemConnect Inc. At this neutral site, chemical manufacturers, buyers, and intermediaries can engage in real-time negotiations in a secure environment over the Internet. Transaction fees range from 0.25% to 1.0%, charged to both buyer and seller, depending on the size of the deal. There is no assessment to join the exchange, numbering over 2,500 members. Products typically traded include agrochemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceutical chemicals, specialty chemicals, and plastics.
