Compiled ByJill Jusko The chemical industry has banded together to issue a set of safety guidelines entitled "Site Security Guidelines for the U.S. Chemical Industry." The guidelines were developed by the American Chemistry Council, the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Assn. and the Chlorine Institute. The guidelines can be viewed and downloaded at www.americanchemistry.com. While the guidelines were developed by chemical-industry security experts for chemical manufacturing operations, the American Chemistry Council says they can be adapted for use by other types of manufacturing operations. The guidelines, which have been under development for the last six months, detail the core elements of a good security program. The guidelines address security risk assessment, emergency-response and crisis-management plans, employee training, and the design of both physical and cyber security strategies.
