Consilium, one of the leading manufacturing execution systems (MES) firms, announced the sale of its FlowStream product group to Base Ten Systems in late February. The sale of the FlowStream product line signals Consiliums exit from the MES market for pharmaceutical firms, leaving the company to focus more on the semiconductor MES business where it is stronger.

Consilium has continued to struggle financially. The company posted losses of $1.2 million in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, vs a loss of $3.9 million in the same period a year earlier. A dip in sales was attributed by the company to both a slackening in demand in the semiconductor market and the economic malaise in Asia.

For its part, BaseTen gains an expanded base of customers in the pharmaceutical market, which will help it against competitors such as Incode.
