Christopher A. Bartlett and Sumantra Ghoshal, authors of Managing Across Borders: The Transnational Solution, are preparing to release a revised and updated edition of their book. To be published in December by Harvard Business School Press, Boston, the book will include new insights into how leading companies are managing in an international environment.

In researching their new book, Bartlett and Ghoshal focused on the ways in which the forces of globalization are creating new strategic and organization challenges for companies worldwide. They discovered that deregulation, privatization, the information age, and knowledge revolution are reconfiguring the strategic characteristics of entire industries. The authors add that mergers and acquisitions, and the proliferation of alliances and partnerships are forcing companies to develop the ability to manage in more flexible networked organizations.

In a new section of their book called "The Transnational Challenge," the authors chart how companies have implemented the strategies they discussed in their first book.

Bartlett is a professor at Harvard Business School, and Ghoshal is a professor at London Business School.
