At a cost of 9.1 billion rubles ($330 million), Russia will build a floating nuclear power station. The station will become operational by October 2010.

The station will provide energy for the Sevmash plant as well as export a fifth of its produce. Serigie Obozov, acting chief of Russia's Rosenergoatom nuclear power producer, noted that Russia needs to create "a typical power unit for a floating station, because there are foreign clients in the Pacific Asia region."

Russia may set up as many as six floating power stations in the future, with plans for Kamchatka, Chukotka, Yakutia and the Krasnoyarsk region now in the works.
