Employers And Employees: Making A Match

New Website helps fill manufacturing jobs

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best solutions.

In northeast Ohio a wealth of manufacturers are looking for workers to fill vacant positions. By the same token, there are plenty of job seekers wanting to fill those unoccupied slots. So the question arises: How best to bring them together?

MAGNET (Manufacturing Advocacy & Growth Network) has introduced what it hopes is a solution. The organization, which advocates on behalf of the region's manufacturers, recently introduced www.jobmagnet.org, a job portal aimed specifically at the manufacturing community.

"We thought it would be in the best interest of both manufacturers and job seekers to establish a single source that could connect area residents looking for work and careers with the manufacturing companies who currently have hundreds of open jobs," says MAGNET director of education and training, Judith Crocker.

On a daily basis the Website will identify and aggregate all possible manufacturing jobs collected online from job boards, employer Web sites, recruiting and staffing sites, newspapers and niche/vertical sites. Over the course of the coming year, MAGNET expects some 5,000 jobs to cycle through the site.

According to MAGNET, the genesis of the new site is due, at least in part, to feedback gleaned while conducting an outreach program to convince young people to seek careers in manufacturing. That effort began in January.

To make sure its new jobs Website doesn't go unnoticed, MAGNET is marketing www.jobmagnet.org through a print, radio, billboard and internal ad campaign.

The site launched mid-July. Some 1,000 people had registered at www.jobmagnet.org by the end of that month.
