Employment: Texas Dominates The Southwest's Top 10

Houston tops out list with 222,477 manufacturing jobs.

When it comes to ranking southwestern U.S. cities by the number of their manufacturing jobs, the "Big D" must yield to Houston for No. 1. Manufacturing employment in Houston totals 222,477, nearly twice the 121,073 manufacturing jobs in Dallas, according to data assembled by Manufacturers' New Inc., an Evanston, Ill.-based directory publisher. And in the Southwest's third and fourth spots are two other Texas cities, Forth Worth with 67,707 manufacturing jobs, and San Antonio with 52,261. Here's the full list:

  2. Dallas (121,073)
  3. Fort Worth (67,707)
  4. San Antonio (52,261)
  5. Tulsa (49,185)
  6. Oklahoma City (48,683)
  7. Fort Smith, Ark. (21,160)
  8. Albuquerque (21,121)
  9. Little Rock, Ark. (15,773)
  10. Baton Rouge, La. (15,405)
