Buyouts part of company's plan to grow scrap processing business.

Steel producer Nucor Corp. finalized its purchases of two scrap processing firms as part of its plan to expand its presence in the market, the Charlotte-based company said April 2. Nucor subsidiary The David J. Joseph Co. acquired all assets of Kansas City, Mo.-based Galamba Metals Group and Metal Recycling Services Inc., based in Monroe, N.C.

Galamba operates 16 full-service scrap processing facilities in Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. The company employs 385 people and processes more than 500,000 tons of scrap annually. Nucor says the employees will remain with the company, which will operate as Advantage Metals Recycling LLC.
