Factory Orders Fall for Sixth Consecutive Month

The U.S. Census Bureau report shows factory orders dipped $0.9 billion, or 0.2% to $470 billion. It adds to December's fall of 3.5%.

New orders for manufactured goods fell in January continuing a six-month downward trend.

The latest U.S. Census Bureau report shows all segments experienced negative activity.

Factory orders dipped $0.9 billion, or 0.2% to $470 billion. It adds to December’s fall of 3.5%.

Shipments fell $9.8 billion to $479.1 billion, a drop of 2% making it five out six months the sector moved down.

Unfilled orders fell $2.2 billion or 0.2 percent to $1,163.4 billion. The unfilled orders-to-shipments ratio was 6.68, up from 6.65 in December.

Inventories of manufactured durable goods fell for the second straight month, dropping $2.5 billion or 0.4 percent to $650.5 billion. The inventories-to-shipments ratio was 1.36, up from 1.34 in December.
