Electrolux to Close Factory in Canada, Reduce Workforce in Europe

1,300 jobs will be lost in Canada and 800 in Europe

Electrolux, a global leader in household appliances and appliances, announced on Dec. 15 that it will close its factory in lAssomption, Quebec, Canada, in 2013. The factory manufactures cooking products and has approximately 1,300 employees.

In Europe, Electrolux will reduce its workforce by approximately 800 employees in 2011 and 2012. The company said it will not close any factories in Europe.

The company employs 51,000 employees.

Profits had slomped 15% in Octoer due to fewer sales in Europe and the United States and exchange rate losses.
