After piloting three MES applications, high-end "infotainment" systems manufacturer to manage global manufacturing operations with Visiprise Manufacturing

Harman/Becker, a division of Harman International, is a manufacturer of high-performance audio, entertainment, information, navigation and communication systems for the automotive and aftermarket industry.

The company recently announced the selection of manufacturing execution (MES) solutions provider Visiprise as its single, full service MES solution for their electronics manufacturing operations. Harman/Becker has completed their initial deployments of the solution at plants in North America and Asia and plans to expand deployments to other North American electronics facilities.

"Harman/Becker conducted a thorough, two-year evaluation process that included the review of 30 MES providers. We narrowed the group to ten potential solutions, and ultimately installed the top three solutions at NPI Plants in the United States and Europe," said Will Bollinger, director of advanced electronics manufacturing at Harman/Becker. "Visiprise Manufacturing allows us to maintain a single system that collects critical manufacturing data, streamlines our quality initiatives, and enhances our visibility into manufacturing operations."

Harman/Becker made their evaluations based on a list of 88 key MES solution characteristics. One differentiator for Visiprise was the ability to conduct real-time statistical process control across their manufacturing operations. Integration with SAP was also critical to Harman/Becker's decision along with third-party validation. Harman/Becker also referred to Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association (MESA) reports for an independent analysis.

Harman/Becker recently completed successful deployments of Visiprise Manufacturing at their Asia plants and at the Farmington Hills, Michigan's new product introduction (NPI) facility. Future plans include roll outs in their North American electronic facilities, including Harman/Becker's "infotainment" plant in Washington, Missouri (In-Car Entertainment product line) and at their premium sound systems plant in Franklin, Kentucky.
