UAW to Bring in Verizon Strikers for Honeywell Rally

"That rally next week is important to us," said Jim McKeever, assistant vice president of UAW Local 1508.

Some 500 union supporters, including Verizon workers who just ended a strike, are expected to descend on the Honeywell Aerospace factory in Green Island, NY, on June 15 to support UAW workers locked out in a contract dispute.

"That rally next week is important to us," Jim McKeever, assistant vice president of UAW Local 1508—which represents the locked-out workers—told the Albany Times-Union yesterday.

Honeywell Aerospace locked out 41 union workers in Green Island and at a larger factory in South Bend, Ind., last month after UAW members rejected what the company described as its "last, best and final" contract offer. The company has brought in temporary workers during the lockout, which began on May 9.

The Green Island plant makes steel brake pads for aircraft.
