The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported on Nov. 18 that for the month of September 2009, U.S. steel mills shipped 5,793,000 net tons, a 3.9% increase from the 5,570,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, August 2009.

This was a 26.9% decrease from the 7,920,000 net tons shipped in September 2008.
