Simulia from Dassault Systemes has released the Abaqus BioRID II (Biofidelic Rear Impact Dummy II) for simulation. Simulia's 3D BioRID II dummy model is for use by the automotive industry during the design phase of seats and head restraints. It is used to assess and reduce the risk of neck injuries resulting from rear-end vehicle collisions. The Abaqus technology provides simulation of the accelerations and loads occurring in the spine, neck and head during a rear-end collision. www.simulia.com

Solidworks has released the latest update of its online community that allows engineers to download and share content globally. 3D ContentCentral, which is free to registered engineers and designers, is used to share 3D models and 2D drawings regardless of their CAD system. Enhancements include support for more content types, including parts/assemblies for most CAD tools, as well as 2D blocks, SolidWorks software macros and library features. www.solidworks.com

CAE software provider Samtech has announced the commercial release of Samcef for Wind Turbines (S4WT) 1.1, dedicated to wind turbine design and verification in dynamic conditions. Autodesk will extend free use of its Inventor LT Technology Preview to its user community for one year. Based on Inventor 2009 technology, delivery of the new version is slated to precede the May 1 expiration date of the current version. Inventor LT allows manufacturers to create, share and edit 3D parts models from different CAD systems. Availability of the free software is limited to the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
