The first Toyota Venza rolled off the production line at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) plant Nov. 10. The Venza is a five-passenger crossover vehicle that the company designed specifically for the North American market.
The TMMK plant in Georgetown has the capacity to build 70,000 Venzas annually. Manufacturing flexibility allows the Venza to be built on the same assembly line with the Camry, Camry Hybrid and Solara convertible, the company says.
More than 30 Kentucky-based suppliers will provide parts for the Venza, including seats and glass components. The vehicle will comprise approximately 70% domestically made parts.
The vehicle was engineered at the Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., and designed at Toyota's Calty Design studios in Newport Beach, Calif., and Ann Arbor.
Toyota describes the car as coupling "the styling and comfort of a passenger car with the flexibility of a sport utility vehicle to give customers a stylish alternative to the traditional sedan."
