OSHA Cites Window Manufacturer for Safety Violations

July 14, 2010
Penalties total $129,500

Alleged exposure to noise levels above 85 decibels led the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to cite Krestmark Industries with one willful and 10 serious violations at a Dallas worksite.

OSHA inspected the window and door makers Bastille Road facility in January after receiving a complaint. The agency issued a willful violation for the companys alleged failure to institute an effective hearing conservation program in the wake of the high noise levels. A willful violation, by OSHAs definition, is one committed with intentional, knowing or voluntary disregard for the law or with plain indifference to employee safety.

The company also received 10 serious violations for alleged actions including failure to protect workers from being hit by flying objects, the unexpected release of energy while servicing and maintaining equipment, and failure to train workers on safely operating a forklift.

Penalties total $129,500.

Krestmark has 15 days from receipt of the citations to comply, request a conference with OSHA or contest the citations.
